Types of Hair Extensions

What types of hair extensions are there and which would suit you! Find out now!

Hair extensions are a great way to improve and change your look in a matter of hours. You can go from short hair to long hair and attach colored hair strands without coloring your hair.

Hair extensions come in different styles, the difference coming from the way they are attached and the materials they are made of.

Hair extensions can last from two to six months depending on the application technique and hair growth. Some techniques use glue or other chemical substances to place the extensions that can cause damage to our hair or scalp, but some don't do any harm at all.

There are three major categories of hair extensions:2

  • strand by strand extensions

  • weft extensions

  • clip-in extensions

Strand by strand extensions technique involves the attachment of each hair extension to a small section of the hair by gluing, heat fusing, metal clamping ,wax or other polymer attachment.

Weft hair extensions technique involves the attachment of a weft which is a curtain of hair attached together at the top. The weft is applied a row at a time rather then strand by strand.

Clip-in hair extensions are extensions that you can clip on your hair whenever you like. They are easy to attach and can match to your hair perfectly. You can get longer hair, volume or highlights are almost undetectable and can be clipped in in a matter of minutes.

Hair extensions can be made of synthetic fibers or natural hair.

Hair extensions need specific care, using leave-in conditioner and no alcohol based products, to avoid tangling and matting.
